It is like an aggrevating game show when you first move into a new home. You can almost hear the cheesy voice through the sparkling teeth of the show’s host Will B. Movin say, “Let’s play…WHICH SWITCH IS WHHHIIIIIICH?”
How can such little switch flip me out so easily? Power switches can blow my fuse as I fumble in the dark for one or repeatedly reach to the left upon entering a room instead of the right. My temper lights up as I click all four switches on a plate attempting to turn a certain light on. I can hear Will B. Movin in my head, “Is it behind Switch #1, #2, #3, ooor #4?…..Oh, I’m sorry the correct answer is the switch on the other side of the room. Better luck next time!” UGH!
There is the switch that doesn’t seem to be wired to anything. The switch that you think is a light but turns out to be the garbage disposal causing you to jump 10 feet in the air. The 30 switches left on by your kids that makes you run frantically around as if you were in the final round of your crazy gameshow trying to get all the lights off in time to make it to your appointment before the buzzer determines you’re late…again.
Switches in a new home can make me dim with despair as they only seem to remind me that my life in my new home is not yet connected. But desperation also reminds me for my need of a Savior.
Jesus says “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12
So before the muscle memory develops and reaching for the correct switch becomes second nature spend a moment examining if you are plugged into God and His word, the Bible. Seek Him, like you seek the correct light switch and thank Him when he shows you the way like a bulb illuminates a dark room. Ponder if He has some things to switch up in your life, agenda or attitude.
It is important to stay connected to the source for peace, purpose and life, especially when you move. There are lots of things that will drain your energy but only Jesus has the power to recharge, renew, restore and redeem you as needed. He is the light of the world, if you aren’t plugged in, won’t you consider the switch?
